Young Tully and Kate were inseparable in the seventies, "best friends forever" - that's what they called themselves and believed that their friendship really would last forever. Tully dreamed of becoming a famous journalist - and she became one, and Kate just wanted to be happy - and so it was: a beloved husband, beloved children, a wonderful home... Tully and Kate's paths diverged and converged again, they could not communicate for years, but did not forget about each other for a moment. And when real trouble came, they were together again. But there is a trouble that no friendship can withstand. Kate could not cope with the illness and, leaving, took Tully's promise that she would take care of her children.
Time passes, but neither her daughter, nor her husband, nor her best friend can come to terms with Kate's death. Tully sincerely tried to fulfill this promise, but no matter how hard she tried, everything went wrong. And now, four years have passed since Kate's death, during which Tully not only took care of her children, she practically destroyed her own life. Sixteen-year-old Mara, Kate's daughter, goes on a rampage, not knowing how to cope with the grief that does not let her go. And Tully's own mother, whom she practically does not know, decides to return and try to improve relations with her daughter. Behind the backs of the three women are difficult stories, broken dreams and destroyed hopes. And one day they will converge at one point, on the very border of life and death.
This novel is the second part of the famous book by Kristin Hannah " Firefly Lane ", which began the epic story of friendship between Kate and Tully. The book is about love and forgiveness, about second chances and the belief that even death will not break true friendship.
