A lion named Eli

In the distant land of Ngumbazania lived a lion named Eli. For a long time he was the terror of the savannah and always got the best piece. But the years took their toll, the lion grew old and now could only be content with scraps in the company of vultures. Noisy, sloppy scavengers irritated Eli terribly. He could not imagine that one day he would call them his friends.

This fairy tale was written and drawn by Bill Peet (1915–2002), a famous American artist, screenwriter, and writer whose books have been published in different languages ​​for over half a century. Before becoming a writer, Bill Peet worked for many years as an animator at Walt Disney Studios and participated in the creation of legendary full-length cartoons such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and many others.

Bill Peet is one of those wise and subtle storytellers to whom the world owes good people, because with his stories he knows how to cheerfully and without excessive moralizing awaken good feelings in the reader.
