The hero of this unusual story is a small elevator, or Elevator. He appeared in the house quite recently and is just beginning to get acquainted with its inhabitants - a girl Ksyusha, who is learning to play the flute, forgetful professor Seleznev, hooligan Danik, cheerful beauty Marina. Elevator is worried about many questions - why is it easy to transport some passengers, while others are difficult, and it is not at all about weight? Can a person's motor break down, and how can you help him? Why is it sometimes worth breaking the rules? Does the House love him?.. Little by little, little Elevator learns more about the world around him and about himself.
