How the ant hurried home
How the ant hurried home
The educational fairy tale by the remarkable Russian animal writer Vitaly Bianki tells of a curious ant who climbed a tree and flew away with a gust of wind on a birch leaf far from his anthill. He needs to get home before sunset, otherwise he won't be able to get inside. Everything would be fine, but his injured leg complicates the journey. The ant is "driven" home, one after another, by a land surveyor caterpillar, a haymaker spider, a ground beetle, a flea beetle, a grasshopper, a water strider, a cockchafer, and a leaf roller caterpillar. In the end, the ant gets into his anthill and manages to run into the last open hole. The book's decoration is the illustrations by Lev Tokmakov. There were several editions of the tale with the artist's drawings. Unfortunately, no complete sets of the original illustrations have survived. We have prepared a new edition of the book, carefully restoring and combining the surviving originals from previous editions.
