Prickly, blunt, resistant to change, ruthlessly honest and sensitive, Olive Kitteridge is the embodiment of vitality. The new collection of short stories about Olive by Pulitzer Prize winner Elizabeth Strout (the prize was won by "Olive Kitteridge") is a real encyclopedia of feelings, joys and troubles of modern man.
Olivia tries to understand not only herself, her actions, her feelings, but also everything that happens around her, the lives of people that she meets on her way. Whether it is a teenage girl experiencing the loss of her father and realizing her sexuality; or a young woman who is going to give birth in the midst of a holiday; or an elderly man who has not spoken to his wife for thirty years and suddenly learns something incredible about his daughter; or her own son who does not understand her.
Olivia, with her incredible sense of humor, makes you laugh, scares you, touches you, inspires you. There are not many heroes in modern world literature who are so bright and so significant.
    Author:
Elizabeth Strout wrote her first novel, Amy and Elizabeth, over six years. It was published in 2000 and was shortlisted for the prestigious Orange Prize, and was then nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Prize. The novel was later adapted for the screen. Elizabeth Strout's literary career took off. In 2009, she won the Pulitzer Prize for her collection of masterpiece short stories, Olive Kitteridge.
In 2010, the book also won the Italian Remio Bancarell Prize - before that, only Ernest Hemingway had received this prize among American writers. In October 2019, the second book about Olivia, Olivia Again, was published in the US.
The Russian translation comes out only a month after the American edition.
Strout reminds us that there are no simple truths about human existence, only surprising, wrenching complexity. A book full of compassion, sometimes unbearable. / Kirkus Reviews
Love, loss, regret, the complexities of marriage, the passage of time, and the amazing beauty of nature are the constant themes of Elizabeth Strout. Unforgettable. / Booklist
Olivia is the axis around which these complex, very human stories turn into the most subtle romance in stories. / O: The Oprah Magazine
The Olivia stories form a monolithic novel, with an introduction, development, and climax. With humor, compassion, and disconcerting detail, Strout explores aging, loss, loneliness, and love. Once again, she demonstrates her gift for focusing on ordinary moments in ordinary people’s lives to highlight their greatness. / Publishers Weekly
