The boy Yoshi loves to swear, and his grandmother doesn't like it at all. She advises her grandson to come up with his own curse word - that way he can let off steam without swearing. Yoshi follows his grandmother's advice and comes up with his own curse word (which, however, still contains one not very decent word).
Besides his grandmother, Yoshi has a sister, Mizzi, who is very brave and quite mischievous. Yoshi decides to scare her with a homemade ghost. It turns out that the curse word Yoshi came up with is actually an ancient reviving spell. Thus, the Scarecrow is born - a small and rather capricious ghost who causes more trouble than fear.
