"As long as you have the drive to make discoveries, to move forward, to discover the unknown, then the boyish god is with you," radio operator Boris once told Vanya. But how can he, this boyish god, be found? Especially here, in the arctic cold, in the middle of nowhere, where Vanya spends the longest summer of his life.
All people, like people, go to the sea in July, to a warm beach, and his father suddenly decided to spend his vacation in the north. In the village of Tsypnavolok, on one street - no shops, no Wi-Fi or mobile communications, not an island of smooth asphalt for a skateboard. Only old rickety houses, bored workers, sunken ships washed up on the shore... Although the wrecked ship is, perhaps, still interesting: Vanya overcame his fear, got inside early in the morning and seemed to understand what Boris meant. Or did he not?
The pages of this book are scattered with numerous clues about where and how to look for your boyish god, what he might be like, and how not to lose touch with him. Dmitry Ishchenko's story is certainly not a collection of practical advice for lost teenagers, but rather an inspiring and strikingly cinematic story about the inevitable end of childhood. Three months on the picturesque coast of the Barents Sea become an inexhaustible source of experience for the main character - and knowledge about himself.
The name of Dmitry Ishchenko is not yet very familiar to the reader, but his debut book reveals a scope of thinking that is characteristic of classic children's authors. And the picturesque panoramas of northern nature, which the story is rich in, are reminiscent of the films of director Andrei Zvyagintsev. The writer lives in Murmansk, and at various times worked as a journalist, screenwriter, and director of documentary films. His story "Teriberka" was shortlisted for the I. P. Belkin Prize, and "In Search of the Boyish God" received the V. P. Krapivin Prize in the "Children's Jury's Choice" nomination.
