Yulka the Christmas tree was born in a nursery on the edge of a highway. The trees there grow so close that their branches almost touch each other. They look up at the sky and dream of growing up to be the tallest, the most slender, so that they can get into some furniture factory. And Yulka the Christmas tree dreamed of lights and fireworks. She dreamed of her branches bending under the weight of balls and garlands, and of a huge star shining at the top. Yulka wanted to become a New Year tree.
