Sven Nordqvist is a Swedish artist and writer, winner of the Astrid Lindgren Prize (2003). The first book about old man Pettson and his clever kitten Findus was published in 1984, after which the series continued, and the author gained popularity first in his home country, Sweden, and then throughout Europe. Cartoons, computer games and theatrical performances have been made based on the Pettson and Findus series. More than one generation of children around the world has grown up on Nordqvist's books. The books have been translated into 40 languages.
