sleeping Beauty
The new edition of "Sleeping Beauty" with stunning illustrations by Christian Birmingham is, without exaggeration, the most beautiful illustrated version of this fairy tale: the book contains 12 huge color illustrations, each a full page long, and 22 black-and-white drawings; the artist created a series of additional design elements especially for the Russian edition of the book.
For this edition, we took as a basis the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm "The Rosehip" translated by the outstanding Russian writer, translator and literary historian Pyotr Nikolaevich Polevoy (1839-1902) and used some fragments from the fairy tale by Charles Perrault "Sleeping Beauty" translated by the classic of Russian literature Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev (1818-1883) in order to combine the advantages of both translations, as well as to adapt the text of the fairy tale as much as possible to the wonderful illustrations by Christian Birmingham (for example, in our fairy tale, seven fairies are invited to the party, as depicted in the artist's canvas and in the fairy tale by Perrault, and not twelve, as in the version of the Brothers Grimm).
