Mittens

The plot of the classic poem is predictable, it has a lot of repetitions, which is exactly what little children love. The poem is set in large font, one or two lines per page, it is easy to read. The new translation of the old English song was made by the young poet Rodion Bobrov, and his version completely preserves the content of the original: the kittens manage not only to find, but also to dirty and then wash their mittens.

Children experience the kittens' pain as they are punished for their carelessness, sympathize with their somewhat theatrical portrayal of grief, and support their sincere efforts to earn their mother's favor and a piece of delicious cake. This amazingly heartfelt poem will be loved by both adult readers and young listeners.

This is a story about emotions, kittens are sometimes sad, sometimes cheerful and happy together with their mother. The book gives a good reason to ask the child what feelings the characters are experiencing at one moment or another, to teach him to talk about moods. In a kindergarten or studio, children will be able to act out this simple story themselves as a performance, putting on kitten masks.

Caldecott Award-winning artist Paul Galdon's watercolor illustrations are full of charming, ink-drawn details. Although the feline expressions are the focus for kids, the book's spreads are filled with countless details to discover: feline home decor, a spice cabinet filled with different types of mint, portraits of ancestral cats. And, of course, there are adorable rats playing hide-and-seek on every page!
