Spiru and Fantasio caught an unknown animal, the marsupilami, so that Fantasio could receive an inheritance. As Uncle Fantasio's will required, the friends gave it to the zoo, and since then they themselves have lost their peace. How can a living creature live in a cage? It's the same as in prison! Gradually, their determination to take the marsupilami from the zoo and return it to its native forest of Palumbia grows stronger. However, they do not have time to implement their plan. First, they are informed that the marsupilami has died, and then the animal's body disappears from the zoo veterinarian's office. They realize that the kidnapper is waiting for the zoo to close in order to quietly take the poor thing's body out under cover of night. Spiru and Fantasio set up an ambush and chase the criminal, who manages to escape by jumping over the zoo fence. Spiru understands from circumstantial evidence that the marsupilami is alive, and he and Fantasio begin an investigation that leads them to Mañana, where the circus of Zabaglione, the famous tamer of wild animals, is touring at the time. On the poster they see an announcement of a new act, where the public is promised a sensation. They buy tickets for the show and - oh joy! - they see the marsupilami in the arena. He is in excellent shape and makes fun of the owner of the circus, Zabaglione. Now the friends need to figure out how to get behind the scenes of the circus and free the marsupilami.
The perky little boy Spirou in a bright red groom's suit, who first appeared on the cover of the magazine of the same name in 1938, is a true legend of Franco-Belgian comics. For 85 years, together with his friend, the tireless journalist Fantasio, and his faithful companion, a smart squirrel named Spip, he has been traveling the world, investigating mysterious events, saving those who have gotten into trouble, restoring justice and punishing villains, and making thousands of amazing discoveries along the way. The series about his adventures has more than 50 volumes, and the opportunity to draw at least one story about Spirou is an honor for the best comics artists in Europe.
The most important event in Spirou's life was his meeting with André Franquin (1924–1997). The talented artist worked on the series for almost a quarter of a century and brought it to the level of a masterpiece of the 9th art. Eight of Franquin's best albums are published in Russian for the first time, including Spirou and the Heirs, The Marsupilami Thieves, Rhinoceros Horn, The Moray Eel's Lair, and The Marsupilami Nest.
