Dad wants to sit quietly and read the newspaper. That means Axel can take the toolbox and play. But the main thing is that he can't touch the saw.

In his homeland, the hero's name is Alphonse Oberg, but in different countries around the world he is given local names: Ifan Bifan (Welsh), Willy (German), Ardom (Gypsy), Burhan (Arabic). We decided that this is a Swedish boy and came up with a new Swedish name, although in Russia there have already been computer games released where Alphonse was called Yegor Goroshkin.
Books about Axel have been translated into 35 languages, more than one generation grew up with them, and things about Axel are part of the cultural code of the Swedes. In terms of the number of books issued in Swedish libraries (more than a million a year!), Gunilla Bergström is second only to Astrid Lindgren, who managed to publish Bergström's first book, "Mia's Papa Is Leaving," before retiring in 1971. Axel appeared a year later and over 49 years has become the hero of 25 books, an animated series, and a children's museum dedicated to Axel was even opened in Gothenburg.
Axel is a very ordinary boy. He lives with his dad Bertil. He has an aunt, a grandmother and a cat named Puzel. Axel experiences many events that children can easily recognize. The boy does not want to sleep, loses his teddy bear, builds a helicopter, fantasizes about everything in the world, communicates with an imaginary friend, gets distracted while getting ready for kindergarten, argues with his dad, dreams of growing up quickly and making decisions. There are no fairies and dragons in the books, because Gunilla Bergström is sure that every day in the life of any person there are mini-performances that make life magical. And this is only possible if the parent treats the child as an equal - this is how Axel and his dad live...
