Incredible planes
Incredible planes
The book "Incredible Planes" by Swedish writer Anders Nyberg will allow the young reader to follow the history of the development of aircraft from the first gliders to the latest innovations in technology. The heroes of the book are the Wright brothers' "Flyer", the "Curtis JN-4" from World War I, the Dornier Do X passenger flying boat, the world's fastest "Lockheed", the "Solar Impulse 2" flying on solar energy, and many, many others. A colorful image of each model is accompanied by text describing the purpose of the aircraft, its technical features, and the history of its creation.
The book also contains inspiring stories about people without whom the history of aviation is unthinkable - about the inventor of the glider Otto Lilienthal, about Amelia Earhart, who made a solo flight across the Atlantic, about the desperate stuntwoman Lillian Boyer. The reader will learn why an airplane flies and how to control it, how a monoplane differs from a biplane and what supersonic speed is.
The book was published with the support of the Swedish Cultural Council and is aimed at readers of primary and secondary school age: the former will be able to get a general idea of the aircraft, while the latter will certainly be interested in detailed descriptions of each model.
