The name of Academician Dmitry Sergeyevich Likhachev, one of the greatest scholars in the humanities, has long been a symbol of scientific and spiritual enlightenment, wisdom and integrity. This name is known on all continents; many universities around the world have awarded Likhachev the title of Honorary Doctor. Prince Charles of Wales, recalling his meetings with the famous academician, wrote that he derived much of his love for Russia from conversations with Likhachev, a Russian intellectual whom he was more accustomed to calling a "spiritual aristocrat."
