One of the best books about fate and inevitable destiny, fate. A song of sorrow and tragedy. Splashes of salt water on the face, the grinding of masts and gusts of icy wind burst into reality from the pages of the novel. Pequod still sails on the ocean of human sorrows with his crew of degenerates, bastards and cannibals, looking for the most terrible monster that lives in the universe. Fear is its name. To kill it in ourselves. There is no better fate, greater valor and greater honor. Courage, before which the heroes of Homer fade. A song about the suffering of the human soul, penetrating to the bones, to goosebumps on the skin.

Herman Melville (1819-1891) is a famous American writer. From the age of 18 he sailed as a cabin boy on a packet boat, worked as a teacher for some time, then ended up on a whaling ship. Unable to bear the tyranny of a harsh captain, he ran away. He lived for a month among cannibals in the Typee Valley. He began his creative career by describing his life in captivity.

"Moby Dick, or the White Whale" is one of the greatest American novels and an allegory of man's struggle against world evil. The author called the book a romantic adventure based on his two years of experience as a harpooner and on one of those wild legends that circulate among whalers of the South Seas. The plot is based on a true story. Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner proclaimed the novel a literary icon, and a real cult of Melville still reigns in the United States.
