Do you know who the gorgels are?
The Gorgels live on the Island in secluded burrows. They emerge from there at nightfall, feed on Gorgel berries, and never show themselves to people.
A little gorgel named Bobba, who was born in one of these holes, starts going to school. There he learns about the magical powers of the gorgels and about the nasty pestilences that cause children to get colds, flu, and other illnesses, and that wake up after their summer hibernation when the months with the letter "r" in their names come. He also learns about the secret mission of the gorgels: the best of them become gorgel-protectors and go to the mainland, to people, to protect their children from the pestilences.
Bobba dreams of becoming a gorgel protector. He studies hard and eventually gets his first assignment - to guard a boy named Melle...
The book " The World of Gorgels " is a prequel to the adventure story "Gorgels", which won the Dutch Children's Jury Prize in 2016 and was recognized as the best children's book of the year in Holland.
