In winter, forest dwellers have a hard time getting food. But a large tree becomes a real "forest canteen" for children. What to do if the cones on the tree freeze overnight and you can't get to the seeds? Call for help!
Irina Yakovleva's winter fairy tale "Forest Canteen" is a kind story about mutual assistance and resourcefulness. The author graduated from the biology department of Lomonosov Moscow State University and has been writing scripts for the "Good Night, Little Ones" program since 1967. That's why the book's heroes - nimble titmice, handsome Capercaillie, kind Woodpecker and dormouse-Chipmunk - turned out to be scientifically convincing, and at the same time cute and fairy-tale-like.
The book was illustrated by artist Dina Leonova. She recreated the atmosphere of a fairy-tale winter forest and gave the book warm nostalgic notes that evoke the golden age of children's book illustration.
