A small Irish island lives its own life, and it doesn't care that somewhere there is a Civilization and Progress, and a civil war is raging nearby. The island has enough of its own joys and problems. But one day, two strangers appear on the island: an English artist and a French linguist. Few people can bear such a neighborhood without moral losses, and especially not the inhabitants of a small island. Moreover, almost the only local teenager is drawn into the thick of a slow but sure slide towards the denouement: in a very slow local life, he will have to go through all those stages of formation in record time, which for some reason took many, many centuries for world culture and civilization.
