Frog Kvak doesn't know what's wrong with him. Is he sad or happy? He's hot and cold, and something inside him is knocking very quickly: knock-knock-knock-knock! The Hare finds an explanation for the frog's strange state, and it turns out that Kvak has fallen in love! At first he didn't even know with whom, but then he remembered: "I've fallen in love with a sweet, beautiful, wonderful white Duck!" But how can he tell her about his feelings? And how can he know if she will love him back?
Max Velthuis (1923-2005) was a Dutch artist and writer who achieved worldwide fame with his series of picture books about a little green frog with a big expressive mouth. For his contribution to children's literature, Max Velthuis was awarded the highest professional award - the international Hans Christian Andersen Prize.
The books about Kwak are published today in 40 languages all over the world, and critics everywhere recognize them as true masterpieces of minimalism. They tell about very complex and important things for every person in simple words and images: about learning about the big world, about learning about others and about oneself. They unexpectedly reveal such seemingly not at all childish experiences as a feeling of deep despair and hopelessness, the torment of unrequited love, loss of faith in oneself. Max Velthuis manages to talk about all this in the language of a three-year-old child, while preserving the full depth of the protagonist's experiences.
