The highwayman rodent / Long forgotten, / But he was a terrible villain / And simply a bandit / … No one can escape or be spared from the highwayman rodent: he takes away the clover from the hare; the nuts from the squirrel; the milk from the cat; the green leaf from the ants. He even steals hay from his own horse! The poor animals and bugs are starving, losing weight before our eyes. Will no one stop the shameless thief?
This is a new story, written by Julia Donaldson, with an eye to the ballad "The Highwayman" by the English poet Alfred Noyes (1880 - 1958).
