The comic strip challenges ancient but unfair ideas about many animals. Are wolves and foxes, bears and tigers, as well as snakes, spiders and biting insects, really that harmful? And why do they have such a bad reputation?
Gilles Macagno explains to us what biologists and conservationists have known for a long time. Yes, there are dangerous animals. Problematic ones - yes. But harmful ones - no! Every biological species, every living organism plays its ecological role. And these well-oiled natural mechanisms work from century to century... Until some extraordinary event occurs that upsets the ecological balance.
Over the last few thousand years, humans have been exterminating entire species of animals, cutting down forests, plowing up steppes, changing the course of rivers, causing animals to die out, deprived of habitats. They are introducing invasive species of animals and plants that have arrived from far away and threaten local ecosystems. The ecological reputation of our species, Homo sapiens, depends on how we solve these and other environmental problems. We really don’t want this reputation to be bad.
