The Prichid Stream, on the banks of which the gnomes have lived for many years, has begun to dry up. In search of a new home, the gnomes set off down the stream to distant lands, where exciting adventures and amazing discoveries await them. The gnomes will have to get out of a variety of scrapes, they will learn the true value of friendship and face betrayal; they will have to show courage and ingenuity to overcome all the obstacles on the way to a new home.
The first part of this epic fairy tale saga, Up and Down Whimsy, won the Carnegie Medal, the oldest and most prestigious award for best children's literature, and has become a classic of children's literature.
The book contains more than 100 color illustrations by the remarkable Russian artist Vladimir Stakheev.
