Chukovsky wrote "Telephone" a long time ago - in 1926. And the book told about how the doctor's phone was ringing off the hook all day long. Animals called him about trifles, and the poor doctor knew neither sleep nor rest...

Nowadays, the poetic masterpiece of grandfather Korney is not at all outdated. On the contrary, the fairy tale gave us a lot of catchphrases and simply famous quatrains that we repeat with delight not only with children, but also in our adult life. This includes “Where from? From a camel!”, “And such nonsense all day long: ... Now a seal calls, now a deer”, and “Oh, it’s not an easy job – to drag a hippopotamus out of a swamp!” and many others.

And Konashevich's illustrations are beyond praise. As the artist himself said, "...fun, entertaining, and most importantly - material." In the crocodile's apartment, there is a palm tree in a tub, on the wall there is a photo: an Egyptian landscape with pyramids, and a crocodile family splashing in the warm river waters (an enlightened parent will tell the child that the crocodiles are Nile); the pig has a luxurious antique piano with candelabra; in the kangaroo's apartment there is a touching portrait of an exemplary kangaroo mother with a child in her pocket; Moydodyr is a fantastic symbiosis of a water jug, washstand and drainpipes - with the newspaper "Health Hygiene" in his hands and an amazing library behind his back. The names alone are worth something: the multi-volume "Bathhouse." "Sea Bathing." "Water Treatment." "Baths. Showers."

Easy rhyme, a fascinating plot, and expressive colorful drawings allow us to consider “Telephone” by Chukovsky and Konashevich an unsurpassed masterpiece of literature “for the little ones.”
