On Saturday morning, the Green Meadow farm is bustling with activity. The orchard is in full swing, with boxes of fresh cherries, raspberries and currants being loaded into the back of the owner's truck. At the nearby cheese factory, cheese wheels are being loaded into a bright red van. The owners of the poultry farm are carrying chicken eggs and packages of homemade noodles to their yellow car. A green truck is parked near the greenhouses, already filled with boxes of fresh vegetables. When all the preparations are complete, the cars line up one after another and set off in a colorful procession. Where are they going?

Farmers rush to the main city square to make it to the weekend market. There, they are met by regular customers who come every week for fresh, organic vegetables, fruits and other locally produced products. On the way, the farmers stop at a large supermarket to sell some of their produce there.

In the town square, the cargo vans are transformed into stalls on wheels – it’s very convenient. And here come the first buyers. They come to the market with their entire families. While the parents choose products and talk to the sellers, the children play by the fountain and mess around with the sheep in the living corner that farmer Bruno built for them.

This book is not only a fascinating tour of the farm with a visit to the cheese dairy, sheepfold, poultry farm, greenhouses and orchards, but also a story about how and where tasty and healthy products from local producers get to city markets and supermarkets.

The Wimmelbooks of the “History in Pictures” series are a real silent movie. Looking at the book without words, children learn to notice details, trace logical connections between events, and independently compose a story based on pictures. The book has so many plot lines that it is impossible to follow them all at once. They intertwine, intersect, and happen simultaneously, just like in a real movie – and just like in real life!
