Kvak is very happy that he was born as a green frog. He is proud that he swims and jumps better than anyone else. Kvak is sure that he has been very lucky in life. But one day he comes to the realization of his own imperfection: he cannot fly like Duck; he cannot bake pies like Piglet; he cannot tinker like Rat; he cannot read like Hare. "I am just a worthless, stupid frog," he grieves. Fortunately, his friends manage to convince Kvak that they love him exactly as he is.
Max Velthuis (1923-2005) was a Dutch artist and writer who achieved worldwide fame with his series of picture books about a little green frog with a big expressive mouth. For his contribution to children's literature, Max Velthuis was awarded the highest professional award - the international Hans Christian Andersen Prize.
