Pat-a-cake

Folk tales, songs and nursery rhymes are the very children's classics with which a child begins to enter the world of words and images. Generation after generation listens to stories about the white-sided magpie, the little goats and the burning cat's house, and it seems that nothing more understandable and wise has been written for children. Yuri Vasnetsov's drawings are also memorable - simple, similar to children's, and therefore very touching. Children are very interested in looking at Vasnetsov's animals and talking about them. Like the folklore lines themselves, the artist's drawings are remembered "from scratch and for life."

In 1971, Yu. A. Vasnetsov was awarded the USSR State Prize for his books Ladushki and Raduga-Duga.
