One evening, before the zoo closed, the night monkey Nora and her dad were sitting on top of a tree in their enclosure and watching the visitors streaming towards the exit. "Daddy, how do people sleep?" Nora suddenly asked. It turned out that daddy knew nothing about it. Then the little curious monkey decided to talk to the other animals: maybe they knew more about human habits?
At dusk, Nora went on a journey around the zoo. She found out how bats and armadillos, sloths and hippos, flamingos and giraffes sleep. Nora even tried all their strange sleeping positions herself: hanging upside down, curled up, standing on one leg, etc. Unfortunately, none of the animals had any idea how humans sleep.
But eventually, the curious monkey managed to look into the lighted window of one of the nearby houses. Nora spied a human mother putting her baby to bed, and this sight seemed like a real miracle to the monkey! This is how she later described what she saw to her dad: “Can you imagine? First they take off their day skin and put on their night skin! Then the big man puts the little one in a special sleeping enclosure! And then, dad! Then the big man covers the little one with a white cloud!”
This book will not only give kids their first idea of the lifestyle of some animals, but will also show humans in a very unusual light. It is perfect for bedtime reading.
